About

A private fund for the last stage of R&D.

A private fund backing innovative research in primary health, renewable energy and waste management.

Fiordland, South Island

01Our story

A small drop for our innovators.

We are ordinary New Zealanders, thankful to God for bringing us to this blessed country.

As a GP on the Kāpiti Coast, Dr. Leo D Gunaseelan has long enjoyed the clean, green countryside, and marvelled every day at Kiwi ingenuity. Aotearoa has innovators from every walk of life: backyard inventors, farming geniuses, academics.

They share one complaint. Very few funds exist to take their work further.

Wing R&D Fund is a small drop to support them.

02Purpose

The stage most funding avoids.

Mature research. A working prototype. Validation done. And no route to the capital that finishes the job.

Wing lends into that gap, one project at a time.

How we decide

Concept. Market. Viability. Impact.

Every application is scored against those four. Sector experts are brought in where the work demands it.

03Principles

What every application is judged against.

  • Evidence. A working proof of concept, some technical validation, and the budget and milestones to back it, not a pitch alone.
  • Commercial viability. A credible route to market, not only to publication.
  • Beneficial impact. What the outcome would mean in primary health, renewable energy or waste management.
  • Responsible funding. The project itself is the security, not a personal guarantee, and the applicant keeps the intellectual property.
04On merit

We fund on merit.

We don’t ask for academic qualifications, or anything else that doesn’t bear on the work. We look at one thing: how likely your product is to be developed and brought to market.

What we look for:

  • A marketable product in development
  • Open, honest, two-way communication
  • Hard work
  • Commitment for as long as we’re involved
05New Zealand

A fund, sized for New Zealand.

Wing is a private New Zealand research and development fund. The three fields it backs, primary health, renewable energy and waste management, are Wing’s own choice, not a response to a trend set elsewhere.

The fund is modest by design: up to NZD $100,000 a year, in total, shared across however many projects a round supports. Who can apply, and from where, is set out on the Eligibility page.
